POST Commission and MPTC Invite Public Comment on Proposed Model Use of Force Policy

BOSTON — The Massachusetts Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Commission and the Municipal Police Training Committee (MPTC) invite all members of the public to submit comments on a proposed Model Use of Force Policy.  

Summary of Proposed Policy: The POST Commission and the MPTC jointly promulgated Use of Force regulations (555 CMR 6.00 and 550 CMR 6.00, respectively) as required by M.G.L. c. 6E, § 15(d), effective October 2021. Under those regulations, the POST Commission and the MPTC are called on to develop a model use of force policy.

The deadline to submit a comment is Monday, March 2, 2026, at 5 p.m. 

When feedback or input is provided, it will be considered, to the extent possible, for any edits or additions to the policy, provided that it aligns with the goals and objectives of the policy and does not conflict with any mandate, process, or protocol that required development of the policy in the first place. After the public comment period, the proposed policy will be presented to both agencies for consideration and possible approval.
