Petition for Review by Executive Director

Officers may submit a written petition to the Executive Director requesting review of the Division of Certification’s decision declining to grant them full certification or recertification, including conditional certification. 

Note: This does not apply to officers who are “Not Certified – On Leave” due to administrative, injury, military, or family leave. Instead, the officer should notify POST when they are returning to full active duty. Officers should email [email protected] and include their name, Acadis number, and return date.

Timeline to Submit

Officers must submit the petition within 21 days of receiving notice of the decision. 555 CMR 7.10(a)(1). 

A petition submitted by 11:59:59 p.m. on a business day is considered filed on that date. A petition submitted on a Saturday, Sunday, or legal holiday is considered filed the next business day. A petition sent by mail is considered filed on the date of the postmark. 

Documents/Information That Must Be Included in Petition

  • Notice of denial of full certification or recertification. 
  • Any documentation the officer submitted to their agency or to the Commission as part of the process of applying for certification or recertification. 
  • A statement of reasons why the decision not to grant certification or recertification should be reviewed. (For example, if the Division of Certification decided that the officer does not possess good moral character and fitness for employment, the officer should explain why they do in the written statement.)  
  • Any relevant information related to the officer’s petition that would be helpful for the Commission to have and review.
